Council voted 5/3 in favour of Councillor Waugh’s motion to grant a 3 year option to Wesley College and WASP Hockey Club to pursue a 21 lease and licence of Collier Reserve with the purpose of constructing a synthetic hockey pitch, clubrooms and change rooms. The reported cost is estimated at $14 million. See Press Releases.

CoSPRA have concerns about loss of community open space, parking and traffic issues as well as noise impacting nearby residents. We are also concerned that should the Planning Department approve this application then all the City’s Public Open Space could be under threat.

The City is negotiating a 21-year lease for the management of Collier Park Golf Course.

The Council endorsed an Officer recommendation to approve the commencement of negotiations with Clublinks for a 21 year lease. CoSPRA understands that the contract will include the requirement for Clublinks to carry out capital works to construct a new driving range, new catering and function facilities.

CoSPRA has expressed a concern that the golf course remains fundamentally a public facility and does not become a quasi private golf club with a focus on financial return at the expense of community golfers.
